Bible study on Job 25 - Bildad questions's a man righteousness

I encourage you to turn to Job 25 in your Bible. Kindly invite the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read and study Job 25 with me. I mention this in all the Bible Studies because it is through the Holy Spirit that we get fresh revelation and knowledge to understand the word of God. I am using the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible, just in case you want to know. All the scriptures that you find highlighted in purple in this post are from the NKJV.

In the Bible Study on Job 24, we read about Job complaining of violence on the earth. Well, in this Bible study on Job 25, we will read about Bildad’s reply to Job. He questions man’s righteousness in this chatper.

Without any further delay, let us study together Job Chapter 25, shall we?

Bildad Questions Man’s Righteousness

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:

“Dominion and fear belong to Him;
He makes peace in His high places.
Is there any number to His armies?
Upon whom does His light not rise?
How then can man be righteous before God?
Or how can he be pure who is born of a woman?
If even the moon does not shine,
And the stars are not pure in His sight,
How much less man, who is a maggot,
And a son of man, who is a worm?”

In Verses 1-6 of Job 25, Bildad answered Job. He said that dominion (all authority) and fear belongs to God. He provides peace in His high places (place of worship, heaven). The armies of God are infinite and His light rises upon everyone – the good and the wicked alike. The sun shines on all men irrespective of their character. Bildad, then questions how could a man be righteous or claim to be righteous before God. According to him, a man is not pure and cannot claim to be pure because every man is born in sin (because of Adam’s high treason). If even the moon and stars which are much bigger than man are not pure in God’s sight, then how could a man who is nothing but a maggot (fly) and a worm be pure or righteous in God’s eyes.

Bildad simply did not understand how could Job call himself a righteous man before God. According to him, all men have sinned since birth. If trouble arrives to a man then it is a sure sign of repercussions of his sin and wickedness. And to Bildad, none of God’s creations are pure/righteous. The only one who is righteous is none other than God Himself.
