I am using the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible, just in case you want to know. All the scripture references that you find in this post are from the NKJV.

Without much talk, let us delve into the word of God.

The Days Of Adam

1 This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.

God created man in His likeness and He created them male and female. He also blessed His creation and called them mankind. Adam lived one hundred and thirty years and begot a son in his own likeness and named him Seth. He also begot two other sons before Seth. Adam also had other sons and daughters after Seth. And the days of Adam were nine hundred and thirty years and he died.

The Days Of Enosh

Enosh lived ninety years, and begot Cainan. 10 After he begot Cainan, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and had sons and daughters. 11 So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died.

According to Verses 9-11, Enosh begot Cainan at ninety years. After Cainan was born, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years during which time he also had other sons and daughters. The total span of Enosh’s life was nine hundred and five years.

The Days Of Cainan

12 Cainan lived seventy years, and begot Mahalalel. 13 After he begot Mahalalel, Cainan lived eight hundred and forty years, and had sons and daughters. 14 So all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died.

According to Verses 12-14, Cainan begot Mahalalel at seventy years. After Mahalalel was born, Cainan lived eight hundred and forty years during which time he also had other sons and daughters. Cainan was nine hundred and ten years old when he died.

The Days Of Mahalalel

15 Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, and begot Jared. 16 After he begot Jared, Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years, and had sons and daughters. 17 So all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years; and he died.

According to Verses 15-17, Mahalalel begot Jared at sixty-five years. After Jared was born, Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years during which time he also had other sons and daughters. Mahalalel was eight hundred and ninety-five years old when he died.

The Days Of Jared

18 Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and begot Enoch. 19 After he begot Enoch, Jared lived eight hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 20 So all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years; and he died.

According to Verses 18-20, Jared begot Enoch at one hundred and sixty-two years. After Enoch was born, Jared lived eight hundred years during which time he also had other sons and daughters. Jared died when he was nine hundred and sixty-two years old.

The Days Of Enoch

21 Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. 22 After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

Genesis 5 - Adam's Family Tree

The Days Of Lamech

28 Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and had a son. 29 And he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.” 30 After he begot Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and had sons and daughters. 31 So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years; and he died.

According to Verses 28-31, Lamech begot Noah at eighty-two years. The name Noah literally means “Rest”. He said that Noah would comfort them concerning the work and the toil of their hands because of the ground which the Lord had cursed. The Lord cursed the ground in Genesis 3. This was the Cost of Adam’s sin and it also affected all generations. Unfortunately, this is the nature of sin. It seeps through generations. After Lamech begot Noah, he lived another five hundred and ninety-five years during which time he had other sons and daughters. Lamech died at the age of seven hundred and seventy-seven.

Noah And His Sons

32 And Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah begot Shem, Ham and Japheth.

Verse 32 tells us that Noah was five hundred years old and he begot Shem, Ham and Japheth.

I have prepared a genealogy tree of Adam so that it is easier to go through it.

The genealogy of Adam

Conclusion

This brings us to the end of Chapter 5 of Genesis. From Adam to Noah we see that only Enoch didn’t die and he was taken up to God alive. We also observe that men of those years lived a pretty long life and it was common to live up to nine hundred years. Even though death entered mankind through the falling away of man, there was so much of life that God had put in man, that death had to creep its way slowly into mankind. That could be the reason why men lived for hundred’s of years and they could also bear sons and daughters at 500 years or more which is quite an impossible task now.
